Very rare and original, ca1890's Cobalt Blue decorated, Gray Salt Glazed Stoneware Berry’s Famous Root Beer Soda Fountain Advertising Mug by N. A. White & Son of Utica, New York (Whites Utica).
This fantastic, blue decorated, Gray Salt Glazed Stoneware Berry’s Root Beer Mug measures approx. 4 1/4” tall and 3 3/8” in diameter at the base. The surface in intricately decorated a pair of Horses forcené (rampant) flanking a central shield with text in the shield that reads “Berry’s Famous Boot Beer”. Two dragons flank the Horses.
This beautiful Berry’s Root Beer Mug / Stein was manufactured by Whites Pottery of Utica, N.Y. between 1890 and 1907 when they made such wonderful molded stoneware. You can see this mug in The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware by Christopher Bensch on p. 58.
This wonderful, 19th century, Cobalt Blue decorated, Gray Salt Glaze, Stoneware, Berry’s Root Beer Mug is in excellent condition. The surface is clean and crisp and exceptionally well preserved. There is a single, small bruise on the inside of the foot ring on the base that appears as a small chip but is more likely a manufacturing remnant. Otherwise the Mug is flawless with no cracks, physical damage or repairs of any kind. Overall this wonderful Berry’s Famous Root Beer Mug is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully.
