$ 7286.4

Availability: 13 in stock
  • Grade: MS 61
  • Mint Location: San Francisco
  • Strike Type: Business
  • Fineness: 0.9
  • Variety: SHIPWRECK GOLD
  • Certification: PCGS
  • Year: 1857
  • Condition: SELLING A VERY SCARCE PIECE OF HISTORY FROM THE S.S. CENTRAL AMERICA. THE .50(QUARTER EAGLE) FROM 1857-S IS ONE OF THE RAREST AND HARDEST TO FIND IN MINT STATE CONDITION. PCGS GRADED AS MS 61, ALONG WITH A PINCH OF GOLD FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN FLOOR. IN ALL 1857-S QUARTER EAGLES, PCGS ESTIMATES ONLY 6 SURVIVORS AT 60 OR BETTER GRADING, AND NONE ABOVE 64+. THE NUMISMATIC RARITY, PER PCGS IS 9.7. TO GIVE SOME COMPARISON, AN 1893-S MORGAN (HOLY GRAIL), AT MS65 AND HIGHER, HAS A LOWER NUMISMATIC RARITY NUMBER OF 9.2, AND IS WORTH ABOUT A MILLION $. THAT NUMBER WAS FOR ALL SIMILAR COINS, BOTH SHIPWRECK AND NOT, SO THE SHIPWRECK ALONE IS EVEN MORE SCARCE.THE OBVERSE IS VERY SHINY, AND MANY WOULD CONSIDER AS A PROOF LIKE AND THE REVERSE LOOKS PROOF-LIKE. FOR SOMEONE THAT HAS TIME, I WOULD RECOMMEND SENDING THIS BACK TO PCGS TO SEE IF A HIGHER GRADE OR PL MONICKER CAN BE OBTAINED. GOOD LUCK BIDDING AND GOD BLESS.
