Remember Sandy's Drive In from the 1950s and 1960s?  15c Pure Beef Hamburgers, 20c Triple Thick Shakes, and 10c Golden Crisp Fries.  The drive in restaurants were a "competition" to McDonalds, in fact the four men who started Sandy's got a McDonalds franchise when Ray Kroc first started McDonalds; they wanted to expand with more franchise drive ins but Ray Kroc wouldn't let them in the locations they wanted. So, they went out and started their own chain, Sandy's.  They did okay for many years but money got tight and finally in the 1970s,
    they sold out to Hardee's.
