  • Condition: Original vintage/antique cast iron industrial cover from a 1945 water motor alarm, made by The Viking Corp. of Hastings, Michigan. The piece features a circular "cap" or cover style plate that reads: THE VIKING CORP / PATENTED / Viking / WATER MOTOR ALARM / TYPE C / 1945 / HASTINGS MICH. The piece measures 9 1/8" across in all directions, and is about 3/16" in thickness, while weighing right at 1 1/2 lbs. The alarm for which this cover comes from was an early form of fire alarm. Depending on the mechanisms in use if water were to be poured into the piping system that the alarm piece was part of and then flowed past the check valve of the piece, it would also turn a striker which would rotate and hit an internal gong, thereby making an "alarm" trill, while simultaneously pushing forward through.
