Georgia school shooter Colt Gray will not face the death penalty since killing two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School on Wednesday.
In his first court appearance, Gray was told by Barrow County Superior Court Judge Currie Mingledorff II his crimes are not punishable by death due to being under 18 years old, but he could receive imprisonment for life without parole or imprisonment for life with parole.
The 14-year-old has been charged as an adult with four counts of felony murder, according to charging documents. No probable cause has been determined yet in the investigation.
His father, Colin, 54, was also arrested after admitting to buying his son the semiautomatic assault rifle, an AR-15, used in the brutal attack for Christmas, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
He is facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children. He is also slated to be arraigned in court later in the morning.
The teen opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, outside of Atlanta, claiming the lives of four innocent people, including two teachers and two students, and wounding nine others in the latest mass shooting to rock America.
Investigations into the preventable tragedy have revealed the shooter was on the FBI’s radar for more than a year as his Discord account alerted to his sick obsession with school shootings.
The shooting victims include students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.
Harrowing texts have since come out between students and their families while trapped in the school during lockdown.
Gray’s aunt Annie made a chilling post on Facebook after the event begging for mercy as her nephew, a minor, was slammed with adult charges, pleading: “I WILL NOT leave my nephew standing alone!!!! When Uvalde happened, I told my own children that ‘only hurt people hurt people.’
